Solo Cup Ornaments

We made some of our Christmas gifts this year and my favorite gifts we made were these solo cup snow globes.

Here are the materials we used that helped make this a super simple project with great results. 

1. Solo Cups (clear)

2. White Sparkle Garland (we got ours at Target)

3. Paper plates for the bases

4. Hot Glue

5. Sequins, Pipe Cleaners, gold stars, glitter, etc

6. Sparkle ribbon (also from Target)

7. Assorted Little Figures (we found ours at Michaels in tubes)

We loved how they turned out! They make great teacher gifts!

Dad and Daughter Christmas Project

When I was in high school I asked for a tool box and a drill for my graduation gift. Little did I know that this is not a request that a builder dad would take lightly. I ended up with the entire Makita Power Tool collection complete with a miter saw, a jigsaw, an electric sander, the drill, and tools for miles. We used to do lots of projects together but it's been a while since we have made anything. When I saw the cover of Martha Stewart Living this month, I knew we had to make this wonderful pipe tree. And my dad was a great sport about it. Detailed instructions can be found in the December issue. We made ours a bit smaller and I chose to use white particle board instead of plywood because I liked the addition of more dots. Here is our process in pictures:

Thanksgiving Crafts

We've been busy preparing to host our first big Thanksgiving in a real house this year. Most of our family will be here which means we will have a crowd of about 25. Here are some of the things we have been making:

Place Card Teepees

I bought this kit at Paper Source and Ford and I made them. Everything is included. All you need are glue and scissors. We loved making every one different. Aren't they the cutest!

 

Hand Turkey Napkins

 I have always loved hand print turkeys and I was trying to think of a way to preserve the little hands that I have making them at my house these days. I found packs of sparkly linen napkins at Homegoods. I got the kids a set of fabric markers and traced their hands for them. Then they were free to decorate their turkeys. I love how these turned out and someday when they are too old to make hand turkeys I will still have these napkins at my table.

Delaney got inspired by the napkins and made this banner. It was all her idea and she made it all by herself. I love how it turned out, spelling mistakes and all!

Thanksgiving Napkin Rings

I have had these decorative brads for a couple years that I bought on clearance at Michaels one time. I've always wondered what to do with them. This year I finally had the idea to make them into napkin rings. I used brown stiff felt and cut it into strips. Then hot glued the strips, using an existing napkin ring for a mold. I added felt leaves with the brads stuck through them and Voila!.... 12 napkin rings for under $10. The cloth napkins are again from Homegoods.

Lego Day at the High Museum

 We ventured down to the High Museum today for a special Lego Day. The Dutch Painters exhibit is currently running which means Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring is there. The kids got to help make a replica of the painting with Lego bricks.

My favorite space in the museum is always the contemporary wing.
