Sublime Doughnuts

Sublime Doughnuts, on 10th street, has been on my list for some time now but we have a standing tradition of Saturday morning Chick-fil-A breakfasts around our house. We finally decided to break tradition for one week only and venture out to the GA Tech Student favorite this morning. It did not disappoint.

The walls are filled with funny doughnut themed artwork and there are doughnut themed kids books all around, sofas, barstools and tables for whatever you feel like sitting on and a plethora of Tech students in their sweats. We ordered at the counter and took our spot at the windows to watch the rainy world pass by.

We sampled several different doughnuts. Including the Reeses and the A-Town Mocha actually in the shape of an A.

We left with a Nutella doughnut for the road in the perfect little to go box that reads "Eat One That's Worth It".

Making Valentines

I love love love Valentine's Day. I can't help it. I love everything about it but mostly I love making Valentines. I always have. Ever since I was little I can remember using a glue stick and those heart doilies to make beautiful things with my mom. So this year I saw this fun idea in Country Living Magazine and thought I'd give it a try.

First you need a selection of paint swatches in varying Valentine's Day colors. I had fun checking out the names of the paint colors and finding ones that coordinated with the day like Cupid's Arrow and Sweet Heart.

Then use a bit of hairspray on each one so the surface is not so slick and the ink will adhere better. Stamp images on each strip on the paint swatch and let dry. Easy Peasy!

Here are my finished products.

To package them up along with Valentines from my kids, I found this great letter tape at Michaels in the $1 bins. I added it on top of Hot Pink Duct Tape on these cheap mailer envelopes. Voila.

If you're making Valentines this year, I'd love to see your ideas too. Please send them to us!

A Child's Perspective of Home Depot

It was an errand packed kind of Saturday and Delaney wanted to come along. I told her we had seven stops and some would be fun and some not so fun. We decided to get the boring out of the way first so after dropping off some samples at a carpet store, we headed to Home Depot. Little did I know how much she would like Home Depot. She would tell you it was the best store of the day.

First off, she spotted the big carpet books and liked flipping the large cards of colors and textures. Then she found these colors with names like Fairy Dust, Twinkle Twinkle, and Slumber Party and decided her room could use some Hot Pink carpet.

Next we tested all the seating options in the outdoor furniture department. She preferred table tops with umbrellas thinking they would be great for picnics in the rain.

Then on to the wonderful paint department which features a whole display of Disney colors, complete with free pamphlets of Disney inspired rooms.

Since her favorite color is yellow, she was in love with the lines on the floor and thought they made fun grids for hopscotching down the aisles.

Next she chose a refrigerator that she really liked because the water and ice maker were easily reachable and she would not need a stool to help herself.

Finally, it was time to check out where there is a better candy selection than Target.

Who knew what a fun place the Home Depot is for little ones! Next time we move, I think I'll let this very opinionated and practical girl help with the renovations.

Dreaming of Texture

I dream of winning a shopping spree in Z Gallerie. It is consistently filled with things that are exactly my aesthetic. This week, while shopping for a client, I was in love with the textures filling the store. Enjoy.

Yeah for the Westside!

We live on the Westside of Atlanta and we couldn't be more thrilled with all the restaurants who are choosing to locate their businesses here. Hands down our favorite is Yeah Burger. Thank you Shaun Doty!

We truly can't get enough of it. Their food is great in many ways. Great tasting of course but even greater because their food is natural and organic and without hormones, antibiotics, pesticides. And add another degree of greatness for serving whole wheat breads and gluten free options!!

The veggie burger is amazing. I tell you this as a person who never goes to a burger place and doesn't order a big, juicy, meaty burger. I wouldn't have ordered this one had I not been with someone who did and made me take a bite. The bite sold me and now it is my order every time. It is deliciously moist and made with organic South Carolina Sea Island red peas. I will admit that I add the topping of Bacon Jam because this stuff can't be missed and I eat the Veggie burger cause I love it not because I am trying to avoid meat. I finish mine off with a side of Gluten Free Onion Rings with Yeah Sauce.

Brandon swears by the Bison Burger. It is exactly what the best burger you've ever had should taste like. He prefers his oozing with bleu cheese and bacon and a side of Fried Pickles.

The hotdogs are great too and a hot dog I can feel good about my kids eating. Of course, they are all natural and nitrate free and served on organic, perfectly toasted buns.

The Boylan orange soda is a big hit with my little ones which is free of high fructose corn syrups.

The Big Ketch

Pretty much the highlight of our year is the sleepy week we get to spend in Seagrove on Highway 30-A each April. We love a week of beach air and fried seafood! Brandon eats a years worth of Po Boys in five days. So, when I saw the Groupon for Big Ketch a few weeks ago, I snatched one up.

The Big Ketch Saltwater Grill is a new restaurant in Buckhead on Roswell Road. Their website promises fresh seafood in an atmosphere that combines Rosemary Beach, East Hampton, and Nantucket and calls themselves Atlanta's Beach House. These are pretty big boots to fill in a landlocked city.

We went on the Sunday afternoon following the big ice storm in Atlanta. We were a bit disappointed that they were out of the Lobster Rolls we had already chosen from the online menu at home. We quickly regrouped and ordered things that their trucks had been able to deliver and understand that fresh seafood can be held up by inclement weather. The restaurant was beautifully simple and did look like we were stepping into a sleepy beach town dive with a touch of elegance.

The first sign that our dining experience would be great was the usual complimentary bread basket was replaced with a tin bucket of boiled peanuts instantly transporting me to the 6 hour car ride that we take to get to Hwy 30-A that is rarely without a stop for these salty treats.

Next, Brandon ordered raw oysters which were right out of the ocean fresh. And then a shrimp, lobster, crab salad Po boy that was delicious. I had the shrimp Po Boy with Kettle chips. The best thing about the meal was the hushpuppies which were the best I've had outside the Seagrove Market.

After all we were dining with a half price coupon, so we ended the meal with a piece of Napa Valley cake at the suggestion of our waiter. It was delicious and rich and the perfect end.

We seriously thought we had landed at the beach for the afternoon and we are eager to return to try the Lobster Roll and get a few more of those hushpuppies. Check it out if you need a quick getaway to the salt and surf.
